Fedora for the Win - hats.com Trend Watch

Out of curiosity, we recently sent out an email asking you a simple question: What's you favorite hat style? It was a close run all the way to the finish, but fedora beat out 11 other hat styles, earning almost 30% of all votes submitted. It's easy to see why, the fedora is a classic shape that is easily adaptable to a more modern style.

The New York Times also just posted a New York City street fashion feature, filled with tons of images of people wearing fedoras. Sounds like there's a trend brewing! Below is a list of our favorite picks from hats.com, which will definitely inspire you to add a little extra flair to your look!

The Country Gentleman Tony Fedora Hat has an aerodynamic profile thanks to the illusion of forward momentum created by its cleverly down-in-front, up-in-back brim styling. The Tony is lightweight and cool on your head, but this hat is sturdy and won't lose its shape. It uses a subtle plaid design in the cloth that lets it stand out just enough to be noticed.

Of course we are a little partial to hats.com's Cody, Connor, Caden and Colton. When you have suave style, but want to stand out with independent trend, these hats will be there for you. They are timeless straw fedoras with a generously open weave to keep your head breathing, but the crown tilts just a little off center giving it a crooked cool look all of its own. Stand out from the crowd in these hats exclusively from hats.com, proudly made in the USA.

One of our favorite things about the Bailey of Hollywood Rielly Sewn Braid Fedora Hat is the tie accent around the crown of the hat. Lightweight and low maintenance, the Rielly's "tie" trim beautifully offsets a nicely paper-crafted classic fedora shape.

Public Enemies - hats.com Style

Gangster Fedora
Public Enemy Gangster Fedora

Looking to sport Johnny Depp's style in Public Enemies as John Dillinger? Luckily, hats.com has great selections that will be perfect to accent your inner gangster.

The Bollman Collection 1920's Fedora by Bollman is the prime example of what the "Gangster" style is all about. Gangsters, flappers, speakeasies, jazz and the Charleston were sweeping the nation. Fashion likewise grew by leaps and bounds during this time, as the public became less inhibited by prior social standards. The term Fedora was in use as early as 1891 but the style really took off in the Twenties, topping off men's fashion during a golden age. The Fedora featured a pinched crown with the brim turned down in the front and up in the back. The Bollman Hat Company produced mass quantities of fedoras and truly captured the exuberance of America at the time.

Boy Meets Girl in Bamboo: hats.com Exclusive!

Boy Meets Girl in Bamboo
Boris & Natasha

No man is an island, so what is a Boris without a Natasha by his side? Every once and a while we like to get a little romantic here at hats.com, and we think it's time to share the love. For a limited time, take $5 off a Natasha hat when you make an Boris purchase.

The Boris shape is extremely flattering and easy to wear, but the best part of this hat is the bamboo used in the material. The bamboo plant grows quickly and therefore replenishes itself easily, and makes a soft and durable material. The Natasha is another hat in a series of eco-friendly styles made specifically for hats.com, and one that turns non-hat people into budding headwear enthusiasts. Easy to wear and easier to afford, the flexible Natasha satisfies both functional and fashionable aesthetics.

Get Eminem's 2009 MTV Movie Awards Style at hats.com

Eninemin KANGOLtwill

Before becoming the soft landing for Sacha Baron Cohen, star of the upcoming movie Bruno, the rap artist Eminem performed tracks from his new album “Relapse” while sporting the Kangol Cotton Twill Army Cap. Eminem has been seen wearing Kangol baseball caps when promoting his new record, but this new look for the 2009 MTV Movie Awards nicely complements the rapper's rebellious style. Perhaps Mr. Mathers should have kept this cool cap on throughout the night...if only to block the sudden sight of Borat's backside! The classic Army Cap is comfortable, durable and fashionable, and should be up for a few awards of its own quite frankly!

Celebrate Earth Day in Style!

Feel good about looking good! There are many apparel and accessory companies that are becoming more eco-conscious about what type of footprint they are leaving behind with their products. Below is a list of fabrics and fibers that are becoming commonly used in the fashion world.

Bamboo is noted as one of the most sustainable plants on the planet because of its fast growth and well-established roots. The bamboo is turned into a pulp and then spun into a fiber to create the fabric. The woven bamboo fabric holds naturally cooling properties which makes it perfect for summer hats and garments.

Organic Canvas, which refers to tightly woven durable fibers, can be made from a variety of sources such as cotton, hemp, or linen. According to the Organic Trade Association, organic means to be grown without the use of toxic pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, or the use of genetically engineered seeds. Wearing organic canvas is the perfect excuse to feel good about looking good.

Hemp, perhaps one of the most diversely used plants in the world, can also be made into a strong, durable fiber for fabric. Because this fabric is so resilient to wear and tear, it’s perfect for a hat destined to be tested by the elements.

Corn is becoming increasingly seen as more then just food, especially since it’s development as a biofuel. Corn is used for its refined tones by apparel companies as a renewable resource and as a way reduce their impact on the earth.

After crops have been collected, the stalks are left behind, which is generally termed straw. This byproduct of various grains is used to make many pieces of apparel, most commonly hats. Straw products are a great way to make use of the waste after a seasonal harvest.

Kelly Green Derby Hat & other St. Patrick's Day Traditions

When we think of St. Patrick's day, we think of many things - shamrocks, leprauchans, traditional Irish music, a tall Guiness, corned beef & cabbage and of course wearing green for good luck. Although the true Irish holiday was traditionally a religious holiday that mandated pubs to be closed thorughout Ireland on St. Patrick's day, in recent years, this turned around significantly and is now a holiday filled with several days of festivals, parades, concerts and fireworks. Residents and visitors of New York City celebrate the holiday with a St. Patrick's Day parade, while in Chicago the holiday is celebrated by dying the Chicago River green with a green vegetable dye.

At hats.com, we are paying homage to the holiday with a limited number of Kelly green wool felt derby hats. The Kelly is made in the USA and only $29.99! So top your green ensemble off in style before you head to the Windy City to witness the green river or the Big Apple for the parade.

May you always walk in sunshine. May you never want for more. May Irish angels rest their wings right beside your door.
